The wolves of Yellowstone need
your help, there is a possibility that the reintroduced wolves will be forced
from the park. At present there are upwards of 150 wolves that will be destroyed
(more than likely as Canada will not take them back) if the present court
proceedings do not go the way we, the 'Friends of the Wolf', hope they go.

Some Facts About the Wolf Reintroduction
in the Northern Rockies:
- If wolves are removed from Yellowstone,
they will be killed! Regardless of
the judge's intention, Canada will not take the wolves back and there are
not enough captive facilities to take all 150+ wolves.
- Wolves do not kill large numbers of livestock
and when they do, Defenders
compensates the ranchers through our Wolf Compensation Trust by paying full
market value for the animals.
- Reintroduction of wolves allowed recovery
to proceed faster than natural
recolonization and gave ranchers and government officials more flexibility
in wolf management.
- Wolves have brought many positive changes
to the Yellowstone ecosystem
including reducing coyote numbers, which in turn allows smaller animals
to flourish.
- Wolves have also brought a new flood
of tourism to the area as people flock to the region to watch wolves and
other wildlife.
